SMA’s clients have included amateur sports associations, youth sports organizations and leagues, coaches associations, recreation agencies and a college athletic conference. Our primary business operations serve over 30,000 customers annually and allow us to achieve one of our basic corporate values of making a difference in people’s lives. Our flagship operation since 1995 has been the GABL Youth Sports Foundation, Inc. (GABL) a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Founded in 1974, the corporation originally operated under the name of Great American Basketball League. In 2009, the Board of Directors changed the structured and name of the organization to allow for a broader outreach of it programs and a more integrated approach to fundraising.
SMA’s involvement in GABL began in 1995 when we were contracted to establish an office for the basketball league and begin the transfer from a volunteer-run organization to a professional operation. Since that time, participation in GABL’s leagues and tournaments has more than doubled to over 6,000 boys and girls annually and its programs are now offered on a year-round basis. The basketball league, which is the largest in the Kansas City metro area, is the Foundation's most significant program. Additionally, Foundation programs include GABL Properties, a merchandising arm developed to assist teams with uniform purchasing; the GABL Basketball Academy, which was launched to help players improve their skills, and GABL Outreach, which is the Foundation's initiative to improve access and the experience of participants in sports programs. We are proud of our involvement in making GABL a premier youth sports organization in Kansas City. Go to www.gabl.net for more information.
The Football and Cheerleading Club of Johnson County (FCCJC),a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation founded over 25 years ago, is the largest youth football and cheerleading program in Kansas. FCCJC is governed by a volunteer board of directors that oversees programs for nearly 4,500 youth in grades K thru 8th in Johnson County (KS) and surrounding areas in metropolitan Kansas City. SMA began its involvement with FCCJC in 2005 when we were contracted to improve the operation of the Club’s office, finances and its programs and events; develop a corporate partner program, schedule and train officials, and assist with overall general management and leadership issues.
FCCJC operates programs and events year-round, with its core programs conducted during the traditional fall season. A 10-field complex in southern Johnson County is leased by the club from the county park district where nearly all its programs and events are held. The facility is operated by the club and includes four lighted fields, multiple concession stands and special fields for K-2nd grade games. Over 100,000 people attend games at the facility in the fall and spring seasons.
Since SMA’s involvement began in 2005, participation has increased almost 10%, new programs have been developed, including the FCCJC Football Academy to help players improve their skills and a merchandise and corporate marketing initiative has been established to create new revenue for the club.
