Sports Management Associates, LC, (SMA) President/CEO Richard D. Hunter announced today that the company has acquired KC Sport Speed (KCSS), a Lenexa-based firm that provides sports performance and training services for athletes of all ages. KCSS was previously owned by Sports Performance, Inc. of Topeka, Kansas.

KCSS programs provide individual athletes and teams of all ages and ability levels with a simple, systematic approach to improving speed, agility, quickness and explosive strength. Improved athleticism decreases chances of injury, and improves confidence, self-esteem and opportunities to excel in sports.

“We are pleased to have KCSS join our corporate family,” said Hunter. “We have jointly worked with KCSS for several years and we are excited about the synergies we bring together that will allow KCSS to become the premier provider of sports performance and training services in Kansas City.”

A variety of programs are offered, including speed development programs, performance programs, and camps for athletes and teams of all ages. The programs vary from FAST (Functional Agility and Speed Training) Program to Soccer Speed, Jump Training, Strength and Conditioning, and Train to Play. The KCSS training center has over 11,000 square feet of indoor turf area for individual and group program services.

Matt Cyphers, formerly KCSS program director, will continue with the company and become managing director. He is a certified athletic trainer and licensed in the state of Kansas. Matt has both a Bachelor’s degree and Masters degree from Emporia State University. He worked for Kansas Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in Topeka and has been associated with KCSS since 2005.
